Business Owner for St Albans: Hayley Jaji
I always loved to swim as a child and was nicknamed the mermaid. We would arrive at our holiday destination and I would run off to the nearest swimming pool until my parents dragged me out at the end of the day. I was taught to swim with the age old tradition of sink or swim and luckily enough I swam! When my daughter was born 14 months ago I understood the importance of swimming and also the immense enjoyment which can be had with swimming. When she was just 12 weeks old I signed her up with Swimkidz and off we went to our first lesson.
I had all the same fears every mum has: will she like it, what if she cries the entire time, am I doing the right thing. All my fears were taken away once we got there; we felt safe, secure and at home. Our teacher was amazing explained everything to us and luckily enough we only had a few tears. We went back week after week learning new skills and I fell in love with every little bit of it!
When an email went round on our second term asking for pool helpers, I was on maternity leave and thought why not! I went along and enjoyed it even more, watching the children who love every minute and want to learn and the children who are shy and scared who you make a connection with and make them feel at ease by helping them learn to love swimming. This made me realised there was a job out there which can be rewarding and which I was slowly falling in love with.
I spoke to Trish regarding franchises in my area and then decided after 10 years of commuting into the city of London to my accountants job and sitting at a desk every day, I needed and wanted a career change. I wanted to see these happy faces every day and watch them achieve their goals from the first kicks as babies to their first unaided swim as toddlers.
My dream has always been to have a job which allows me to spend time with my family and also to have a thriving career. To be able to wake up on a Monday morning and have that YES feeling about my work is what Swimkidz is all about!
