Swimkidz Wales Keeping their Boots Walking for Charity!

When Tasha and Leah Roberts heard about the latest fundraiser for Maggie’s Centre in Cardiff, they knew they had to help.

Swimkidz Wales Charity WalkMaggie’s offers the best possible support for free to anyone with cancer. Anyone can visit a centre or join the online community. They help people take back control when cancer turns life upside down.  They provide professional support for anything from treatment side effects to money worries. Family and friends can visit Maggie’s too.

About Maggies Charity

‘A mother of two children sits with her husband as the consultant tells her that her cancer can’t be cured. They are moved to a strip-lit, windowless corridor of the hospital to process this devastating news. This was Maggie Keswick-Jencks at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh in 1993. She and her husband Charles discussed the need for somewhere ‘better’ to go, outside of the clinical environment, but still nearby.  Maggie’s centre’s were born from this concept.

Swimkidz Wales Challenge

On the 1st of March, Tasha Roberts Business owner for Swimkidz Wales along with Step-Daughter, Leah Roberts accepted the challenge! Together they donned their walking gear and set off on their mission to cover 300,00 steps in March for this amazing charity walk.  To date they have together walked over 104,000 steps, and on occasions covered 21km in a single walk.  To date they have raised over £150.00.

Customers are Key

Tasha and her team have been keeping themselves busy during lockdown.  They have actively kept their valued and loyal customers busy with ‘story times’ which Tasha has done through Facebook. This has offered fun, interactive and exciting swimming stories to all the children she teaches.  In addition, Tasha created an A-Z of swimming which details all the benefits of baby and toddler swimming.  Tasha who has a degree in Psychology and a teaching degree, has used her skills to share her knowledge.  So this has been adopted across the Swimkidz network to benefit everyone.

Mental Health Awareness

This has motivated other Swimkidz business owners to look at how they could reach out and help others during the Pandemic.  So, Swimkidz Berkshire led by Charlotte Lyles  challenged her team of teachers to walk to key points across Europe to promote their well-being and mental health.  So far, they have walked from Reading to Disney Paris then onto Barcelona.  They are now speeding toward Gibraltar before their crossing to Morocco.  To date they have covered an amazing 1600kms between them.  Swimkidz Wales are walking for Young Minds Trust who are fighting to ensure a better future for young minds. They too are taking a similar route to Swimkidz Berkshire.

Well done to all the amazing work Swimkidz have done!
